Dick’s 5 and Dime Celebrates 50 Years in Branson!

What started as a dream 50 years ago to Richard L. “Dick” Hartley and his wife June has become a well-loved staple in Branson, Missouri.

Dick was born and raised in Springfield, MO. He was a veteran of WWII. He and June moved back to Branson in 1960 and opened the doors to their own five and dime store. For many years, Dick was the sole employee at the store, with duties ranging from sales to the construction of display counters. When one of his retail competitors went out of business in the seventies, Dick purchased the Main Street location, and his store remains there today. This “landmark” has been a staple in not only downtown Branson growth, but a visitor favorite.

Dick’s 5 and dime store offers something for every customer. 50,000 different items line the shelves in this unique, yesteryear store. What sets this store apart from modern stores is the nostalgic feel of the place. With the retro, hard to find items on hand, customers get a sense of years gone by. The candy aisle is a perfect example of yesteryear. Revisit your childhood with Horehound candy, Kits, BB Bats, Slo-Pokes, Big Hunk and candy cigarettes.

During your next visit to Branson, make sure to include the most unique and fun place to shop. Dick’s 5 and Dime, a Branson tradition for 50 years!
